Minneapolis grew up around one of the early settlements in Minnesota history, at SaintAnthonyFalls, the only waterfall on the Mississippi River. The government built an Army camp nearby, named FortSnelling, in 1819, and gradually the village of Minneapolis began to grow.
Today, St. Paul, Minnesota is a thriving city, and the capitol of Minnesota. The history of St. Paul is an interesting part of Minnesota history as a whole. Minnesota’s history is one of both native peoples and trade, from early in the 19th century onward.
